Description
The Serpente table lamp is an iconic example of Italian mid-century modern lighting, designed in 1965 by Elio Martinelli for Martinelli Luce. This sculptural lamp is characterized by its bold, architectural form: a heavy black base supports a sweeping, curved stem that appears to “hold” a large white mushroom-shaped diffuser. The generously sized shade, made of opaline methacrylate, softly diffuses the light, creating an even and atmospheric glow. The visual contrast between the dark base and the luminous dome enhances the lamp’s futuristic yet timeless presence. The Serpente is celebrated for its balance of weight and lightness, function and sculpture.
