Kavel 305-061-SS081-A4: Fabulous Mid-Century Design Six Strand Rectangular Rattan 3-Seat Sofa with Frost Blue Fabric Cushions Attributed to Paul Frankl, 1950s.
Lovely six-strand rectangular rattan 3-seat patio sofa with a wonderfully stacked rattan base is attributed to Paul Frankl. Produced most likely by Ritts Tropitan in the 1940s. The sofa features a six-strand rattan at both ends and bended pencil rattan on the seats and backrests. A real nice ‘show-off’ on terrace which is in well preserved vintage condition according its age and use. The 3 separate seating and backrest cushions have been replaced for one 3-seat and backrest cushion which is upholstered in a tasteful soft frost blue fabric. This rare sofa includes within the rectangular 6-strand armrest an upward-curve in the shape of a wave / half circle on the bottom. However there is no ‘hard evidence’ in terms of a label or catalogue this extraordinary piece shows all the details that are so characteristic for Paul Frankl his work. Therefore it can be assumed that this is an authentic Paul Frankl piece. Paul Frankl was an Austrian designer, furniture maker, architect and writer. Some of Frankl’s designs had distinctive Asian influences, inspired by his interest in Chinese and Japanese arts. In the 1940s he was one of the first designers to utilize free-form and biomorphic shapes, beautifully exemplified in his 1951 cork-topped biomorphic coffee table. As well as cork, he experimented with bamboos and hardwoods, and with non-traditional upholstery materials such as pony hide, denim, horse blankets and nubby fabrics. Throughout the 1940s and 50s Frankl designed lines of wicker, cane, bamboo and rattan furniture for both indoor and outdoor use. These developments aptly reflected the post-War trend towards more casual lifestyle, allowing Frankl’s designs to permeate the American cultural landscape. Dimensions: Height: 90 cm, Width: 190 cm, Depth: 90 cm, Seating height: 43 cm. Arm Rests: 60 cm. Quantity: 1

Set of 3 original vintage issues of Domus Magazine, dating from 1983. This bundle includes the following issue numbers: 637, 640 and 645. Domus is internationally regarded as one of the most influential monthly reviews of architecture, interior design, and art, and has played a key role in shaping modern architectural and design discourse. Domus was founded in 1928 by the architect Gio Ponti, together with publisher Gianni Mazzocchi — two leading figures in Italian architecture and publishing whose collaboration helped establish Domus as a leading voice in 20th-century design. Issues from the 1970s reflect a period of architectural experimentation and cultural transition. Typical content includes contemporary architectural projects, urban and residential design, theoretical essays, interior concepts, and explorations of new materials and construction methods, alongside contributions related to art and visual culture. Each issue is documented with individual cover photography and interior spread images, providing a clear and transparent visual overview of the condition and content of the magazines. Offered as a cohesive set, these original vintage issues are no longer in print and are highly sought after by collectors, architects, designers, and scholars. Together, they form a valuable reference archive capturing the spirit of late 20th-century European and international design culture.

Kavel 311-063-PF074-S4: Bright Youth, inspired by Maurice Dupont, oil on canvas, Western Europe, mid–late 20th century
Bright Youth, inspired by Maurice Dupont, oil on canvas, Western Europe, mid–late 20th century. This figurative portrait titled Bright Youth is a stylistic homage to the work of Maurice Dupont. The painting depicts a youthful figure rendered in bright, optimistic colors and simplified forms, emphasizing vitality and mood rather than strict realism.
The composition and handling clearly reference mid-20th-century modernist portraiture, with flattened pictorial space, stylized facial features, and a light, expressive palette. Brushwork is confident and fluent, suggesting familiarity with the visual language it draws upon.
The painting is signed with the name “Dupont,” accompanied by a second, different name, indicating that the work should be understood as inspired by rather than authored by Maurice Dupont. It is therefore offered as a derivative or homage work, not as an original by the named artist.
Despite its derivative nature, the painting has clear decorative appeal and is competently executed, making it a charming and accessible example of modernist-inspired figurative painting. Dimensions Frame: Height 63 Width 52 cm. Visual: Height 60 Width 49 cm.
